The Cliff Restaurant sits on the bluffs above the ocean at the southern edge of Laguna Beach, directly on Pacific Coast Highway. The location offers unobstructed ocean views from nearly every table, making it one of the most scenic dining spots on the Southern California coast.
History
The original structure opened in 1946 as a roadside diner. Over the decades it evolved into a full-service restaurant while maintaining the same clifftop location. The building has been renovated multiple times but the essential appeal, eating with the Pacific Ocean spread out below, has never changed.
Setting
The dining room features floor-to-ceiling windows facing west over the ocean. An outdoor patio extends toward the cliff edge with glass barriers. At sunset, the entire room fills with golden light. Whale watching is possible from the tables during migration season (December through April).
Dining
The menu focuses on seafood and California coastal cuisine. Fresh fish, steaks, and classic cocktails. The food is secondary to the setting for most visitors; this is a destination for the view rather than culinary innovation.
Brunch is particularly popular on weekends. Reservations recommended for sunset dinner seating.
